A big WIN for Drupal WxT - Ottawa.ca

Today, the City of Ottawa launched a new and improved website that includes an updated look and feel, easy navigation, improved accessibility and is responsive mobile design.

OpenPlus was the primary vendor leading the City of Ottawa (ottawa.ca) website initiative, integrating the key features, deployment of Drupal 7 WxT and deploying SOLR search engine platform. In conjunction with OpenConcept who handled some of the architecture and some of the complex migration executions of this project.

GTEC 2012 - Open Source Universe

Canada's Government Technology Event, Nov. 5-8, 2012, Ottawa Convention Centre, Ottawa - This year GTEC celebrated its 20th year attracting a full house and over 200+ booths. One of those booth's was the Open Source Alliance of Canada (OSACan). OSACan is Non-Profit established to encourage public sector IT managers, executives and their technology partners to explore, adopt and contribute to open source technologies.

University of Ottawa going Drupal7 with OpenPlus

The University of Ottawa has commissioned OpenPlus to rebuild their primary corporate website into Drupal7 as well as perform a usability review for many of their top websites. OpenPlus is currently the lead Drupal7 architect consultants,  the University has over 650+ websites.

Russian Government officially mandates using open source

Near the end of 2010 Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed an exective order for all public institutions to switch to open source software. Initial estimates are that over the next 5 years this change will end up saving the government millions in licencing costs. However it's been speculated that that may not be the main reason for the switch. Despite claims of security and stability over open source coming from companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and Adobe governments and private companies are becoming more reluctant to use software essentially owned by an external company.

Drupal 7 Performance

Drupal 7 has the ability to be highly optimized much in the same fashion as pressflow for Drupal 6 iterations. It is of keen notice that with just a few optimizations we can make Drupal 7 offer an exponential increase in the amount of requests that can be made per second.

It can be quickly seen from below that with just a few modifications we can already get quite a performance gain in the speed that Drupal both runs and serves pages to the end user.
